High Speed Chase

West Monroe Man Leads Officers on 2-Parish Chase

A high-speed chase that began in LaSalle Parish ended in Winn Parish on Sunday, June 16, 2013. At 3:27 AM, a LaSalle Parish Sheriff’s Office dispatcher notified the Winn Parish Sheriff’s Office that a LaSalle Parish deputy was pursuing a dark colored Chevrolet Tahoe into Winn Parish. The driver of the Tahoe had committed a traffic violation and refused to stop for the deputy.

The driver wrecked the Tahoe on Couch Road, just off US 84 in Winn Parish. An LPSO Deputy Sheriff apprehended one suspect at the scene, and the other two fled into the nearby woods. WPSO deputies arrived on the scene and formed a perimeter of the surrounding area, along with the LPSO deputy, to contain the suspects.

Winn Correctional Center’s Chase Team was also dispatched to the scene. During the team’s arrival, one of the suspects surrendered to deputies. The chase team pursued the third suspect on horseback for about 200 yards into the heavily wooded area where he also surrendered.

All three men were placed under arrest.

Joshua Proffer of 1105 Edward Drive in West Monroe, the driver of the vehicle, was taken into custody by LPSO deputies. He was returned to the LaSalle Parish Jail in Jena and booked on the following charges: aggravated flight from officer, driving under suspension, no insurance, reckless operation, running stop sign, improper turn, and improper lane usage. Mr. Proffer is being held in the Parish jail on a $13,750 bond.

The other two men were transported to the Winn Parish Jail and booked. Luis Guerrero of 180 Sichley Lane, Columbia, LA, was charged with disturbing the peace by public intoxication. Manuel David LuJan of 1125 Lincoln Street in Olla, LA, was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and resisting an officer.
